Steve Wynn and The Mob?

Steve Wynn is the man responsible the the resurgence of modern Las Vegas. Link to read about Wynn's life above. Back in 1982, a Scotland Yard report was compiled on Wynn as he was seeking a gaming license in Great Britain. Within the investigative 100-page report was -- there was this statement that Wynn
"has been operating under the aegis of the Genovese family since he went to Las Vegas in the 1960s." Maybe the Mob was instrumental in rebuilding Las Vegas in the 1990s...

John L. Smith wrote "Running Scared: The Life and Treacherous Times of Las Vegas Casino King Steve Wynn" and Smith cited the Scotland Yard report within the book. Wynn would then sue Barricade Books publisher Lyle Stuart and Smith as a result. The case was heard in Clark County, Nevada in 1997 and Wynn won a $3.2 million dollar judgement against the publisher. The author was dropped from the case by the judge and Wynn appealed that decision all the way to the Nevada Supreme Court. State Supreme Court Chief Justice Bob Rose, before proceedings began, announced all seven Justices of the Court had taken campaign donations at some point in their careers from Wynn companies. The Chief Justice ruled there was no conflict of interest. Here are quotes from the original 1982 Scotland Yard report:

"The strong inference that can be drawn from the new intelligence is that Stephen Wynn, the President of  Golden Nugget, Inc. has been operating under the aegis of the Genovese family since he first went to Las Vegas in the 1960s to become a stockholder in the New Frontier Casino...some of the data supporting this view, taken on its own, is not conclusive. However, the connections are so numerous and significant that it would be impossible to accept coincidence as a reasonable explanation...It has been alleged by a confidential informant that Wynn's late father Michael Wynn (formerly Weinberg) ran his bingo parlour in Maryland under the auspices of Anthony "Fat Tony" Salerno (below) then a member and now one of the ruling triumvirate of the Genovese family."

Fat Tony Salerno
Before Black Friday, Steve Wynn announced he had entered into an agreement to join PokerStars in the online poker market. The actions of the Department of Justice forced Wynn to withdraw from his agreement with PokerStars. Former Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Miller has been an anti-Wynn crusader forever. Miller wrote this article about Steve Wynn, his brother Kenny Wynn and thier associations back in 2005.
